Intern Opportunity
Location: Inuvik, NT
The Inuvik Youth Centre Society is currently looking for an intern, to stay a minimum of four months.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
The successful candidate will work closely with the centre program coordinators and director and will assist in the implementation of programs including a nutrition and exercise program, jewellery making, girls’ night, movie night and sports night.
Specific areas of responsibility include:
1) Working with Youth
Working with youth between 6 and 18 years of age for three evening shifts
2) Program Coordination
Preparing monthly program calendars for distribution throughout the community
Developing and delivering programs for youth 6-12 and 13-18
Facilitating and coordinating special events related to programming
3) Budgeting
Purchasing supplies related to programs
Ensure project expenses and income are managed according to budgets
4) Human Resources
Co-facilitating monthly staff meetings
5) Maintenance
Ensuring the safe and secure maintenance of the facilities.
6) Administration
Respond to phone and email inquiries in a timely and professional manner
File and record documents in an accurate and efficient manner
7) Fundraising
Develop and coordinate alternative means of fundraising
QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to candidates who have:
Experience working with Aboriginal youth as well as an extensive understanding of youth-related issues;
University degree and/or experience in working with youth at-risk;
Sound knowledge of MS Office applications; Strong oral and written communication skills;
Proven experience working within budgets;
Knowledge of Quickbooks, Microsoft Publisher and Excel considered an asset;
Additional qualifications Standard First Aid and CPR; Suicide prevention; CPI training;

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Compensation: Air fare to Inuvik, living stipend
Hours: Monday through Friday (flexible)
